Christmas carnivals in Pacific Highlands Ranch.
A Christmas carnival is a carnival built for December: green-and-white and red-and-white striped booths under warm lights, games with candy-cane skins, concessions, a holiday balloon arch and a Santa and Mrs. Claus photo station. It is the event itself, and My Little Carnival produces it from the first booth to the last prize. This page covers christmas carnivals in Pacific Highlands Ranch, where HOAs, school groups and neighbors planning a winter gathering have two city-run spaces to start with and two school districts to coordinate around.
The Pacific Highlands Ranch Community Park and the Pacific Highlands Ranch Recreation Center are the two places a neighborhood group is likely to think of first. Families here fall into two school systems: Del Mar Union School District for the elementary grades and San Dieguito Union High School District above them. A Christmas carnival can be a neighborhood party that brings both groups together, or a single school's pre-break event.
My Little Carnival produces Christmas carnivals across San Diego County, and every booth count and Santa station is sized to the space the host has.
A Christmas carnival in Pacific Highlands Ranch.
At the gate stands the holiday balloon arch, with candy canes, peppermint and gingerbread worked into the red and white. Inside it, striped booths form a loop around the open middle of the lawn or lot, and every game wears a candy-cane skin and a matching sign. Warm string lights run along the booth tops, so the loop looks finished by the time the afternoon turns to dusk.
The seven concessions cluster at one corner: caramel apples, snow cones, nachos, pretzels, churros, popcorn and cotton candy. The walk-in snow globe inflatable gives families a photo prop to step into (nothing falls inside), and snow-flocked trim can dress the arch and props. Santa and Mrs. Claus hold the photo-op station at the far side of the loop, so families cross the whole carnival to reach it. A neighborhood group can run the event across an afternoon, and a school can keep it to a two-hour window.
